Awareness Through Movement with Sandrine

CLASSES TAKE PLACE IN THE BLUE STUDIO

Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® lessons in the Feldenkrais Method® are gentle movement sequences designed to bring attention to your whole self, mindfully and compassionately. By slowing down, we are able to sense and feel ourselves in movement, enabling us to start to make clear distinctions between areas where we experience more or less comfort, ease or “over-efforting.” Through this experiential learning, we begin to sense, think, and feel outside of our habits. Becoming aware of habits and ways of learning can create a positive shift in our capacities for movement and functioning. ATM classes are open to all adults, including those with neurological difficulties, chronic pain, injuries, or other issues.

ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME

Sandrine Harris is a Movement Educator, Feldenkrais Practitioner®, mindfulness facilitator, and dancer. Sandrine offers Feldenkrais® classes, community classes, and workshops at Yoga at Space. She holds teaching certifications in dance, Feldenkrais®, health counseling, and mindfulness meditation. Community Class: Relaxation through the Breath-Body-Mind Connection with Anju

The deep connection between our thoughts and breath often goes unnoticed as we move through our day. This class will first invite you to connect with your sensations, emotions, and thoughts. Breathing exercises or pranayama will deepen your self-awareness and build focus as you regulate the flow of prana through the body. As you mindfully coordinate your breath with the process of entering, sustaining, and releasing asanas, you will take your body into a "rest and digest" mode. The class is designed for any level of student willing to give themselves permission to explore the three limbs of yoga - aparigraha, pranayama and asana - to connect the mind, breath and body to attain a state of sustained relaxation.

Dr. Anju Taneja, RYT 200, earned her Yoga Teacher Certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and is pursuing further studies in the field of Ayurveda. Born and educated in India, Anju’s personal practice includes pranayama, meditation, asanas, and mindful eating. Anju is currently a faculty member at the Hotchkiss School as Instructor of Physics, and also coaches tennis, volleyball, and basketball. A classroom teacher for almost three decades with an extensive educational background and fieldwork in the sciences, Anju plans to focus her Yoga classes on alignment for strength, stability, and balance. Her philosophy for Yoga practice is that kind acceptance of oneself transcends into compassion for others, alleviates stress, and eventually leads to wellness.

Community classes are pay by donation ($5 - $20 sliding scale suggested). If you're new to our studio, please be sure to introduce yourself to your teacher before the start of class.

Yin Yoga with Cindy

Yin Yoga is yoga for the joints, bones, and connective tissue/fascia. Yin Yoga promotes healing and wholeness by increasing one’s natural range of movement, joint mobility and flexibility. Most postures target the spine and hips, are done while seated or lying down, and are held in stillness for two to five minutes. The goal is to gently stretch and rehabilitate connective tissue while improving the flow of prana or chi, the subtle life force essential to overall well-being. Great for beginners as well as continuing students.

FOR BEGINNERS & CONTINUING STUDENTS

Cindy Vannoy, E-RYT 500. Teaching since 2006, Cindy is continuously inspired by the transformative nature of Yoga to affect change and promote health on many different levels.  She is an internationally registered Yin Yoga Teacher, and a nationally registered E-RYT 500 Yoga Alliance Instructor holding both 500 hour Embodyoga and 200 hour YogaWorks Certifications. Gentle & Restorative with Sarah

This combo class is a mixture of gentle movement and Restorative Yoga. The practice begins with a Restorative Yoga pose, creating a meditative state of deep, nurturing quiet to heal, detoxify, and de-stress. Next, gentle movement supported by deep Yogic breathing begins to open the body, mobilizing the spine and major joints as well as mindfully stretching and strengthening. Class always ends with a period of deep relaxation. Great for beginners, or those seeking a slow-paced, accessible practice.

Community Class: Tending Your Roots with Sarah

Our legs and feet can be considered our physical roots, the limbs with which we connect to the earth. All too often, issues with our joints – ankles, knees, and hips – plus poor footwear prevents us from feeling the power of these limbs, and really getting grounded. In this class, Sarah will help you wake up your feet and toes, mobilize your ankles, then strengthen the muscles around your knees and hips. Before final relaxation, you’ll get to give your feet a little extra attention through a soothing self-massage. Please bring socks. Open to all.

Community classes are pay by donation ($5 - $20 sliding scale suggested). If you're new to our studio, please be sure to introduce yourself to your teacher before the start of class.
